What lessons were learned from the 8in8 experiment?

Recently, four content creators -- Amanda Palmer, Ben Folds, Damian Kulash (of OK GO) and Neil Gaiman, got together the night before the Rethink! music conference, and tried to spend eight hours, writing & recording eight songs.  In the end, they created 6 songs in 12 hours, put into an album called Nighty Night, which you can hear at that link.

The link goes to a Bancamp Page (http://music.amandapalmer.net/album/nighty-night) which also allows you to pay for the album.  The first two weeks, all of the money went to the Berklee City Music Boston charity.

A lot of fans have since come together and created a series of music videos and fan art for the project, many of which are quite amazing.

There was some concern early on as to whether or not there were really lessons to be learned from this, or if it was just a new project for the sake of newness.  So I thought perhaps we could have a discussion on whether or not any lessons could be learned from this and what they might be.

Hmmm, ok, couple of things that would make this more useful would be some stats. What were Ms Palmer's web-hits like before the session? What were they like afterwards? What were they like once the charity element had finished? Is there a subsequent kick of new listeners whenever someone creates some fan art or does that largely serve the existing fans?

Any chance of any more detail please?
