About Me

Cynthia Brumfield, President of Emerging Media Dynamics, Inc., (www.emergingmediadynamics.com) heads a team of seasoned experts in the media, broadband and telecommunications businesses. Ms. Brumfield has spent her full career as a researcher and analyst of the communications media and is recognized as a top expert on cable, broadband and new media development. Through her work as the Director of Research at The Media Institute, Vice President of Research and Policy Analysis at the National Cable Television Association, Senior Analyst at Paul Kagan Associates and President of Emerging Media Dynamics, Ms. Brumfield has worked closely with top-flight media, technology and telecommunications businesses, helping them devise successful strategies in the consumer, policy, legal and business arenas.

Ms. Brumfield launched her first advisory services practice in 1999. She also launched the first daily publication devoted to the broadband businesses and has authored or directed numerous studies, reports and articles on VoIP, IPTV, interactive TV, high-speed data access, market share among communications companies, and many more topics central to the development of the communications media. She currently heads up the team responsible for a new web-based resource, IP Media Monitor (www.ipmediamonitor.com), devoted to the emerging IP media businesses, and is co-founder of a blog, IP Democracy (www.ipdemocracy.com) focused on the intersection of IP media and public policy issues.

Prior to founding her own firms, Ms. Brumfield served as a Senior Analyst at Paul Kagan Associates , Inc. (PKA) a leading media research and analysis firm. As a Senior Analyst at Kagan, Ms. Brumfield tracked and projected industry trends and served as a lead analyst for several Kagan investment and industry newsletters, including Interactive Television, Cable TV Technology, and Digital Television. While at Kagan, Ms. Brumfield also organized successful conferences on the broadband businesses and performed strategic advisory consulting work for leading media, communications and technology clients.

Ms. Brumfield spent ten years as the Vice President of Research and Policy Analysis at the National Cable Television Association. While at NCTA, Ms. Brumfield initiated, designed and produced a variety of research studies and policy papers on various communications matters for distribution to Washington policy makers, the press and cable industry executives. Heading a team of in-house research professionals and directing numerous outside economic, public opinion, academic and marketing research consultants, Ms. Brumfield conducted original and secondary research to support the association’s legal and public policy objectives in the courts, at federal regulatory bodies and before Congress.

Before joining NCTA, Ms. Brumfield was the Director of Research at the Media Institute, a nationally recognized, nonprofit research organization, where she authored a landmark study on CNN and how its business coverage compared to the three broadcast networks.
