Calling For Wireless Market Stats

Earn up to $25 for Insights on this case.

We would like to compile the current size (# of providers, customers, revenue), historical growth, and potential growth in the wireless broadband internet market on two scales: 1) municipal wifi and 2) rural fixed wireless -- on a state-by-state breakdown.

This issue is clearly a tall order, so the first 10 acceptable responses to provide data and/or suggestions for obtaining this information will be chosen as winners. A follow-up issue to this project may be posted based on the responses gathered here.

To be honest, for the compensation offered here, I'm not going to go overboard and do any research myself in compiling your data. However, I have a great, comprehensive report sitting on my desk right now which I would recommend to you given what you are asking:

Broadband Wireless Access Operators: A Global Survey and Analysis, by ARC Chart research, April 2007. ARC Chart is a UK company, and generally I like their research. This one is global in focus, but considers North America separately in section C "Operator Profiles by Region". It provides case studies in rural and also provides cross-sections based on radio type (WiFi, WiMAX, etc)

The report is hot off the press, just out last month. Contact ARC at service@arcchart.com, or call them at +44 207 826 9000. I may be able to get you a 25% discount. You will need to contact me to see if I can get you this.

No I have no official link to ARC, although I have blogged about their wireless broadband work in the past: http://news.techdirt.com/news/wireless/article/2604

Go here: http://opengardensblog.futuretext.com/archives/2006/08/us_wireless_dat.html and post a comment. You will receive a nice powerpoint presentation of the stats for last year to whichever address you submit. It's a starting point at least.

Combined with this: http://energycommerce.house.gov/reparchives/108/Hearings/02042004hearing1164/zac har4.pdf you should be able to extrapolate a lot of the relevant information.

I think anything more in depth you will have to pay for sadly.

I would go to elance.com, http://www.b2kcorp.com/, or yourmaninindia.com and put this project out to bid.  There are lots of companies that will do research like this for $4-10 USD per hour or by the project.

Muni / fixed wifi statistics are rather arcane and complex to untangle. (Why would anyone answer for $25?)

I would suggest contacting CSMG ADVENTIS, which has expertise on the subject. Ed Naef is the fellow to speak to - and can be reached at 617-999-1000.
